Eight years ago my dad died by suicide and it led me on a campaign to destigmatize mental illness in the u itsu community. Since 2016 the #submitthestigma campaign has helped reduce the stigma for people to seek the professional mental help they need without feeling judged by those closest to them. We all struggle and we all need an ear sometimes. By sharing our stories of struggle we create community and safety to be vulnerable and authentic.

I now use this day each year as a time to reflect and evaluate my life. I see it as the day my world changed because it was truly a catalyst for me. It changed my life. It changed my values. My identity, even.

This past year has been amazing. A lot of growth. I have made huge strides in my life and I'm super proud. It isn't a sad day for me.

I'm really proud to debut this rashguard for @submitthestigma because it reflects my journey from being a victim of my circumstances to the creator of my path. Flex your head to me means doing the mental reps to change your habits and make a positive impact on your life through your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Do the introspection, do the deeper work. Why do you do and feel and say and think the things you do? Start searching.

TLDR; I've been through some shit but Ive learned to sit with it and let it change me in order to become more authentic to myself and others.
